Sounds like a pretty good trade, though being the best pitching prospect in the Nats system is damning with faint praise. And the DBacks are pretty loaded, so what might be the best in the Nats chain might merely be pretty good in Arizona.

Is Livan a free agent at the end of the year?

Not sure - I think he has at least one more year. Maybe two. Off to research.

I thought it was only one more year at most.

Given his weight and workload, he's no more than a back-end starter these days. And as good as he was for the Marlins in 1997, he was that bad for the Giants in Game Seven of the 2002 World Series. Can't blame the DBacks for getting him, he's the best of a lousy lot, but I don't think he's a difference-maker anymore.

A year ago, I might have cried.  Now?  Good deal.

    Long as Soriano stays ****

Of that I'm very, very sure.

I'll be sad Saturday, too, when I see the Mets kick Traber's ass.

I think this TBD guy who is penciled in for Sunday has a better chance.

  11. He blows balloons all day.

(Lucky balloons - OK enough with the Elton John threadjack)

Good trade by the Nats just to shed the salary but I have to wonder if Bowden could have gotten more before the deadline. I mean its not like a lot of starters were traded.
