Ooh, that reminds me. I need to take that box of books to Goodwill one of these days.

Why not try selling them on Amazon or Ebay? After I moved the last time, I decided to cut as much clutter as possible. That includes books. Some of my favorites I will read again I'll keep, but otherwise, SOLD.

Whatever you do, watch out for this guy, especially if you check out Tropic of Cancer ...

I just checked my wallet for a library card. All I found was my draft card and 3 players cards for Las Vegas casinos.

County I live in, city I work in and university that employs me. I don't use them as much as I should.

Only one library card in my wallet.

When I'm in Portland, though, a visit to Powell's is a must. Is it still there? (Haven't been to Portland in probably 6-8 years.)

    I only have two:

    1) Harrison County (Miss.) libraries
    2) Library of Congress

    Oh yeah.

It is well worth it to visit your local library's website, particulary in a large metro area. A staggering wealth of online resources may be available for free that you may have to pay for elsewhere, such as the NY Times and other Proquest newspapers, photo archives, fulltext article indexes, etc. All you'll need is a card and library card number and you can use all this from home.

If you ever write about a historical topic, or even think or doing so, this should be mandatory.

To offset the threadjack I'm about to continue, I have three library cards, though I'm not sure two of them are still viable.

To the Netflix people, you should look into Blockbuster Total Access. We switched a while back because you get the same online rental program for the same price, but you also get to exchange your envelopes for three in-store rentals per month (plus, when you return the envelopes to the store, they're instantly checked in, which allows you to get your next one sooner). It's at least worth considering if you live near a Blockbuster store.

Now back to libraries. I love 'em. My nearest one also sells used books on the cheap, so I can usually find some good bargains there (like paperbacks for $1-3 and hardbacks for $5 or so).

I'm on the Blockbuster plan, and I love it. When I get on a movie watching kick, it's awesome. I'm on the unlimited store trades, so when I finish a movie, I take it to Blockbuster, get another one, and by the time I watch it, my next one through the mail has arrived. So i'm seeing twice as many movies as I would otherwise.

Sadly, I also go through lulls. Right now I've had the first disc of "My So-Called Life" for the past two months. :(

A lot of small-town libraries have inter-library loan programs where they can get you anything from the nearest big-city library. If your town has one, all you'd have to do is browse the website of the relevant big-city library for titles, order them through your local library and pick them up in a few days.

And for God's sake, just get some Folgers Crystals and put them in the back of your cupboard.
