    Mr. Carrier, thank you for keeping me and millions of Midwesterns cool over the past several days, including today.

    I also want to thank my electric company for having me bend over and pay to keep the AC on at rates that were jacked up at mid-month.

    Bastards.

    I pitched this book idea around 2000 about Mr. Carrier, the history of air-conditioning and how it changed urban development in the South.

    I figured since 2002 was the centennial, there was a pretty good hook.

    The big brains that I worked with at the time never got it.
