Lena Horne passes away at 92

News hit the wire about an hour ago via NYT.

Classy, graceful, and an amazing woman. Rest in peace, Ms. Horne.

 

Very sad. The last remaining link, I believe, to a very special era in show business.

I was raised listening to musicals, big band, Sinatra, Judy Garland, Lena Horne and have to admit that my parents had great taste in music.

Another entertainer whom I have known of my entire life, is gone.

 

A genuine talent. Knew her niche, and played to it.

Also a monstrous temperment, when things didn't go precisely her way,
but that was part of the package.

My favorite LH moment was her turn on Sanford and Son. Fred: "I'm coming to you darling ... with the Horne." She also induced Lamont's only heart-attack.

No - no. Pretty sure Lena Horne was Catwoman. She was also Spenser Tracy's wife in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.
