She never was but she worked so hard to make herself a thing, and the Manhattan entertainment elite wanted so badly for her to become a thing, that it just became a parody and loads of fun to poke holes in. Throw in her admitted pedophilia that somehow her sycophants thought was okay, and it was a target-rich environment.

She made a show that was OK. The first season was pretty uplifting fluff if you were someone that age. And she was young, which led to many people profiling her.

Also, she was easy to hate. And when people don't like you, you become a thing. This is why Jemele Hill is a thing. And a person who sort of was and who played a character that was self-involved millennial personified is gonna get all the hated. We just aren't built to ignore things we dislike.
