    I think only government offices are required to be closed on MLK day and even that, I think, differs from state-to-state.

    I've always dreaded seeing the annual MLK Day story which takes the annual temperature of race relations and how much progress has been made since King. Usually the only day of the year the topic gets brought up. Not seeing them this year, which is a story in itself.
