"Compare that to basketball, football, or even golf. Satchel Paige said, “don’t look back, something might be gaining on ya.” I just did. It’s now hockey."

    Awesome.

I'm just happy my typo provided a ray of sunshine on this board today. :)

MASH lost three characters whose career role was on the show (Stevenson, Linville and Rogers), and it really hurt the edge and vibe.

I think it was more that than the writing per se.

I disagree about the loss of the actors vs. the writing.
You can bring in new characters and keep the show rolling — a la Rebecca Howe/Kirstie Alley and Woodly Boyd/Woody Harrelson on 'Cheers.'
The reason it worked on 'Cheers' and didn't work on 'MASH' is because the writing stayed true to the original idea of the show.

Also, Rogers defining role was as Gambler on 'Cool Hand Luke:'
'That sounds like an over-ripe watermellon what's ready to bust open.'

I'd love to have done an anonymous poll on Rogers' most recognized role.

The actors who replaced those three were so different... the writing had to change.

Gotta agree ... LOADS more people recognize Rogers for M*A*S*H than for Cool Hand Luke.

I was really just kidding about Rogers as Gambler. I just really like that movie.
However, I really do think the problem with 'MASH' were a result in the change in approach rather than the change in cast.

  8. You weren't kidding - you were just being an idiot.

We should kick your ass out of the league.

The episodes written by Jim Fritzell and Everett Greenbaum were the best, but I'm a TV nerd.

What, you don't like 'Cool Hand Luke'?
    You are a bastard.

  11. I like my movies from this century and without a homoerotic George Kennedy prancing around shirtless calling people "boss".

I do see how the egg "swallowing" scene would appeal to you though.

Shouldn't you be watching 'Failure to Launch' again?
