Summer night, a good cigar, a slowly evaporating glass of Scotch.

    Flyover living has its pleasures.

This spring was abysmal here. Then it was June 21. Since June 22 it's been gorgeous. It's like a literal summer switch has been flipped.

I just spent some time in Montana and man that 9:45 sunset makes for a jam-packed day; 6 o'clock rolls around and you literally have time to start any outdoor activity.

A lightning storm rolled through the Bitterroot Valley last night about 10:30 and half the street was out enjoying it, and there was still a sunset glow in the sky.

    A water, a Pepsid, a melatonin pill.

    Flyover living's pleasures have teeth.

Can we presume glass(es) of Scotch, good Sir?

Yes, plural. Stayed up way too late, but it was a lovely evening.

Scotch in the summer? Not a big fan. I usually switch to vodka the second June arrives. As for seasons, I've always preferred spring, when the promise of summer is still in the offing and everything is in bloom. To me, summer is over after about the middle of July. I think August is the most depressing month of the year, and that includes February.

I just spent a week in Dublin -- where I got engaged, go me -- and the sun was setting at freaking 10 p.m. It was weird and discombobulating. I blame the late sunsets for my thrashing hangovers.

    Congrats!

I had that same problem in Brussels a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how parents of youngsters get them to bed at a reasonable hour over there. Blackout curtains, I suppose.
