GateHouse adds Taunton (who competed mildly with Brockton for Taunton and surrounding towns to the north) and Fall River.

Seems like JRC got a good price: $70 million for two papers with a combined 30K circulation and a few weeklies. So, much as we'd like to, I don't think we can see this as a negative for JRC, whose stock price increased after the announcement of the sale.

Think you can see it as a negative for the poor saps that work at those papers though.

They are free of JRC now, so that probably isn't a negative unless the new owner cuts staff. But since JRC operates pretty lean, there likely isn't anything to cut.

So now Gatehouse owns the following dailies:

    from CNC:
    Framingham
    Waltham
    Milford
    Dedham

    from Ledger/Enterprise Newsmedia:
    Quincy
    Brockton

    from JRC:
    Taunton
    Fall River

KP, Taunton did more than nominally compete with Brockton. Brockton was putting out a Taunton edition seven days. Expect circulation at the Enterprise to dip further as they redirect people toward the Gazette.

And I don't see how Gatehouse doesn't make cuts.

    Not much more to cut.

Agreed, but how many times have we said that in the past, happy?
