Journalism fellowships

    Anybody here ever get accepted for one? Was it all you thought/hoped it would be? Was your boss okay with you taking off for the year or however long it was?

    I did one a few years ago. Awesome experience. Lived in another country -- at someone else's expense -- and got to write about stuff besides sports. My fellowship lasted four months and the bosses could not have been more supportive. (Of course, had the four months been smack in the middle of my busy season, they might not have been so supportive.)

    I did a Knight Fellowship at Yale Law School in 1998-99 and have only good things to say about it.
