    ASSOCIATED PRESS
WILLOUGHBY — The Journal Register Co., a publisher of regional newspapers, said it will consolidate the printing of its two daily Ohio newspapers this month at The News-Herald.
The (Lorain) Morning Journal and The News-Herald will lose 10 full-time and 32 part-time jobs. Most of the cuts will be at the smaller Morning Journal.
The Yardley, Pa.-based company told investors Thursday that the consolidation, effective April 23, will save the company $700,000 and result in better print quality, page and color capacity, and the ability to target advertising inserts to geographical regions.
A message seeking comment was left Saturday on the office voicemail of Ricardo Venegas, the company’s treasurer, who does not have a published home number. Jeff Sudbrook, publisher of The Morning Journal, would say only that the newspaper will continue printing in Lorain through the end of April.
The News-Herald has an average weekday circulation of 40,900. The Morning Journal, printed 25 miles west of Cleveland, has an average weekday circulation of 28,500. Journal Register owns 22 daily newspapers and 345 non-daily publications, but recently sold newspapers in Rhode Island and is selling Massachusetts publications. The company last year said it was selling because of slower growth and to focus on its more profitable online ventures.

Gannett did something like this in Ohio last year.
And I know of at least one Gannett sports editor in Ohio whose position was eliminated very recently.

Be aware that JRC has cut dozens, probably hundreds, of editorial jobs chainwide in the first quarter of the year.

ANY advertised position at ANY JRC paper is odds-on not to exist in 6 months.

  10. yeah, the Trentonian thread is a tremendous source of first-hand info on what's happening with Journal Register

oh wait ... it "ran it's course"
