What about Jesse Orosco? He's the ultimate LOOGY.

I like Lee Smith a lot. I'm always surprised at the lack of respect he gets.

Struck out nearly a batter per inning over an 18-year career and had an absolute dominant run as closer from 1991-1995.

Take away a brutal last season (when he was 39) and his career ERA would be under 3.00.

I think he's in. (But, no, Guy, I'm not putting the first three in, though I loves me some Reardon.)

I haven't heard of half these guys. And the ones I have heard of are way past their prime.

My question: Is Dale Murphy better than Mattingly? I really don't know much about either two, but I do remember liking both of them growing up.

As bonus points, I saw Mattingly homer in the playoffs, so that was cool.

Would there be interest in an SportsJournalists.com hall of fame vote?

Run it just like the HOF. Everyone can vote for up to 10 and then tally up the votes. Whoever gets 75 percent and above gets in.

I'll even volunteer to tabulate if there's an interest.

Both were outstanding human beings to begin with. I'd give the edge stat wise to Donnie Baseball, but I always wondered if he would've been as good in the National League.
Murphy was catcher who didn't blossom until they put out in centerfield and he learned how to play the position. He was a good contact hitter and put up good numbers even in games played away from the launching pad aka Atlanta Fulton County Stadium.
He gets the edge from me because of the MVP awards.
