    Maybe it is an unfair stereotype, but the fact is that a large proportion of the college softball players I've encountered over the years have been flamingly lesbian, including (especially) the former coach of said team. Basketball, not so much.

    Well, let's just throw golf and tennis in the mix, too, since there's occasional lesbian references to those sports as well. So basically, any picture of a woman participating in a sport is code for lesbianism.

    Kind of a funny story. Several years ago, I'm out with some other writers and the SID of the local women's college basketball team (at the time a top 10 program).

    After way too many beers, one of the writers asks the SID, "How many of the women on the team are lesbians?"

    Without pausing, he said, "All of them. If you're not a lesbian, you don't play for (the coach)."
