iPod needs a fixin'

Cat stepped on my iPod's screen last night, shattering something and making the top half of my LCD screen blank.

I was curious if anyone has gone about using any of the online repair sites that I've found in a Google search:
    www.restoredoctors.com
    www.ipodjuice.com/apple-ipod-repair.htm

I don't want to spend a boatload to get it fixed through Apple, so I'm not sure if I need to just suck it up and save for a new one or try to get this one fixed.

How can a cat break an iPod?

Stepped on the screen. Apparently it was enough. Everything else is working fine, just the LCD screen was broken.

Well, hell.. that's what you get for outfitting the furry one in concrete booties.
