In which a columnist recounts his son's sudden death

    Not sure where this belongs, but this hits me on several levels. Jim Hunter was present at many of his nephew's American Legion games when I covered them in Rocky Mount. Knew never to call him "Catfish." He hated that more than he hated being interviewed. And my wife just retired as an elementary school teacher. How horrible to die in front of your class at such a young age, even with the school nurse by your side. Pulmonary embolism.

    I have relatives in that part of the state on my maternal grandfather’s side, so I know Hertford and Edenton well. Catfish passed too young as well (age 53). Tragic all around.
