Does every tour member have Finchem's number? Because Daly must've drunk dialed him on a monthly basis.

I'm not sure what the answer is. If there are 30,000 spectators at the course on any given day, what do you think? about 29,000 have a phone with them? You don't want to be the tournament director responsible for checking and securing all of them (that's got litigation written all over it), and a group that has Phil or Tiger in it is going to see more problems than a group in which Robert Garrigus is the biggest name. Why can't people use some common sense? For the same reason we think the world is going to come to an end if we turn off our phone for a 30-minute plane ride.

Interesting. I just finished reading a story on CNN.com about how airlines are getting pressured to upgrade technology to allow phone calls, texting, and data on planes. Virgin already allows it, apparently, and it's coming soon to a ton of other airlines.

    Anyway....

While I agee that people need to relax on the whole phone culture, golfers need to get off their high horse. It's not exactly like the fans are in their face or blowing air horns or yelling "Noonan. Noonan." while they are over a putt. If you are the best in the world, someone holding up a phone or a bird in a tree really shouldn't throw you off your game.

Plus, if those people didn't care enough to want to take your picture, then Phil etc would actually have to have jobs.

Phil is probably self conscious about his man boobs.

  8. Nope. I'm with Lefty on this one. If you're enough of a golf fan to walk the course for a PGA event, you know the etiquette and you accept it. Otherwise stay the hell home and watch it on TV. If you want to take pictures, that's what pro-am day is for. If the big names start skipping or pulling out of events, you can bet Finchem will take action. That's why Mickelson did it, for the effect.

It's not necessary to check the phones at the gate. But if someone can't resist playing shutterbug, you have course marshals and police escort that person off the grounds.

The cell phones didn't seem to bother him when he shot 66 two weeks ago in Dallas. Not that he blows up on the back to shoot 79, "LOUD NOISES!....STOP THE CLICKING!"

Give him a break. He had that stressful European vacation the week before.

That's what I'm talking about. Is such thinking really so foreign these days?
