    Very curious to see how this plays. On one hand, for the rest of the world, there has been no grading on a curve. Either full-throated backing of gay marriage or accusations and assumptions of bigotry and homophobia. This Pope may be the only one to change the rules.

    I expect that the experience of the Anglican Communion will serve as a portend: Strong resistance from the conservative dioceses - particularly in Africa. Of course, there are two major differences. First is the hierarchical structure of the Catholic church. Second is that the pope hasn't gone as far as some member churches of the Anglican Communion.
