I read this book at least once a year since about 1992.

As said above, I want to read it again and am just looking for a reason.

    An outstanding idea.

  5. Sure, JD.
    Homecourt advantage.

  6. Considering my SportsJournalists.com handle, I think it only appropriate that I weigh in on this subject.

Count me among those who believe the book would not translate well to the screen. As some previous posts have suggested, much of the novel's charm is its subtle humor. Much, if not all, of that would be lost in the film.

If any actor could do justice to Ignatius J. Reilly, I think it would be PSH. However, it would obviously require an equally talented and committed director.

I now must attend to my valve.

Hoffman is the one I've always thought woudl be best for the role. Farrell is way too much of a lightweight, physically and otherwise.

If he were younger, I could see Oliver Platt in the role from a physical standpoint.

Ignatius is only 30 years old.

  9. Perhaps my favorite book of all time ... I can't see it working on film. Just can't.

Belushi and Richard Pryor would have been very intriguing, though.
