You have to stay at your current shop for the switch.

Outdoors writer. Cut down on the hunting, kick up the fishing coverage a couple notches.

IIRC, there may be a guy at the NYT who would travel around and participate in a slice of life in different parts of the country/world. He had a show on Discovery Times, too - I remember him getting all involved at Burning Man. I'd love to do that.

I'd be Idaho's fly-fishing columnist on the tweaked outdoors desk at a paper in the Rockies.

Staying at my current shop ... features writer. One focuses on Christian rock (his favorite music) and Christian movies, another does 40-inch reviews on re-releases of Merle Haggard and other old country artists' albums, while the third is clueless about everything and must be spoon-fed stories by the editor. There's a pretty good music and arts scene here that is woefully uncovered.

Looks like we have the makings of my dream section (or an internet launch without the funding to get it going) in the works.

timeout - you can be the fly-fishing columnist for a couple of states, and i'll take a couple of states. and because idado will have a large budget, we can split up the trips to chile, argentina, labrador, etc.

Can I be the dry fly and hopper-dropper specialist?

only if i get to specialize in the green drake hatch on the frying pan. and my dropper is always getting tangled up with the rest of my line so you can definitely have the hopper-dropper beat.

The ad rep down the hall from me.

Of course, my 'dream section' would actually have to have reader interest and ad sales, so I'm not sure it'd happen.

But if I could chose a beat and not worry about its security, that'd be it.
