?

What sport would you choose if you could be a team GM?

(helps if you sing the words to the tune of If I Were a Rich Man...)

Interesting question and I guess a lot of it would depend on what role you like to play, where your passion lies, etc.

Baseball would probably be my choice, given the length of the season, the time you get to make things work and the number of games (hence the even larger opportunity to make big decisions).

I'd work in basketball. One big draft choice, free agent, or trade would make a bigger impact there, although that could also be a bad thing if it's the wrong move. I have confidence in my abilities.

Depends on the team, the salary cap, and what I have to work with.

Pick your team and assume you have to live with the cap numbers which are currently in place.

    Baseball.

Thinking man's sport, thinking man's GM job.

WTF does an NBA GM do? Root for ping-pong balls?

you can't be serious, zeke. if someone other than mchale had been GM of the timberwolves the past 10 years (i know someone else technically has that title but mchale is the GM) you can be damn sure they would have made it out of the first round more than once.

That's a fairly unique case, though.

The Joe Smith thing fucked everything up.

yeah. that was his only bad move. if not for that clusterfuck the wolves would've been great! paul grant was a great player. william avery was a smart draft choice.

I didn't say it was the only thing. I agree with your general premise.

However, even with a good GM, I don't think the Wolves were winning a title after the Smith debacle.

I disagree about the Wolves. They just made some really poor choices and could have been better otherwise.

    I chose NBA.

I'm surprised baseball's winning by so much.
