The mosque would provide great security. They should build one right on the site. Surely the terrorists are not going to blow up a mosque.

Gives 'em a good place to hide their weapons too.

Sounds like a community center. Two blocks from Ground Zero might as well be 5 miles anywhere else. Without two blocks of that site in every direction, there are about 1,000 different things. If St. Paul's Chapel can sit a block away, I don't see why a mosque / community center can't. What is the big deal at this point anyhow? It is a giant empty space, with only sporadic attempts to actually build anything nowadays.

I always felt the NYC Apple store in front of the FAO Schwartz would make a great mosque.

It might actually be a target for Islamic extremists. Perhaps the only thing they hate more than non-Muslim Western thought is a moderate Muslim who preaches peace and co-existence.

In addition, American terrorists who hate anything that might be in any way Muslim might see the mosque as a target.

But it is these open and out-reaching Muslims who should be supported by sane Americans.

It's with followers of that sort of Islam we hope to leave Iraq and Afghanistan.

The other night Michael Savage responded to this by asking how many Christian churches or Jewish synagogues were in Saudi Ababia.
That kind of misses the entire point because there is no official state religion in this country.
That said, I can understand how some 9-11 victims' families might look at this as a slap in the face, but if they weren't bigots before the attacks, they shouldn't be bigots after the attacks.

This is another Smallpototoes standby: Regurgitate a strawman argument advocated by a right wing radio wacko, then attack said strawman argument on the board here.

    I love his consistency.

I always wanted them to rebuild at ground zero like this ...

Does anyone really think that this isn't being done to piss people off?

And, since it obviously has, has a point been made? 'Cause if so, I am missing it.

They had to know this wouldn't go over well, had to.

At least point the damn thing toward some cave in Afghanistan or Pakistan, where your bile really belongs.
