Elvis is approved, but this kid and her family can't get Blaer OKd?

And da man's right -- her mom is hot ... :)

I saw that, but it didn't really come across as an explanation. I guess she just got fed up with it, but was it the fact that the girl has ID naming her as "Blaer" when she is trying to, maybe, cash a check made out to "Stulka"? Or because a teacher refuses to call her by what he might consider her nickname?

It just seems odd they've been doing the same thing for 15 years and then all of a sudden decide it's too much.

Maybe the local SE won't use "Blaer" and her mom feels it's costing her daughter a scholarship. I don't know. The story doesn't tell me.

Your new Icelandic name is now Bjork. In fact everyone's new Icelandic name is now Bjork.

Iceland seems like a wonderfully informal place:

The first name is also important because when Blaer has a daughter, her daughter's last name would be Blaerdottir in Iceland.

Still the best example of Icelandic logic is the thing where developers have to certify that their land is elf-free.

What if there are more than one Olafurs in the phone book?

Good point. But aren't there only supposed to be 320,000 or Icelandians living on the planet? Then he'd be "Olafur from the Iceland White House?"
