I have it on good authority that the Record has hired Ian O'Connor away from Gannett to replace Adrian Wojnarowski. Ian starts Jan. 1.

Great hire, getting a heavyweight who knows the NY market to replace the big loss of Woj.

    Awesome get.

And now The Journal News can go even more local. [/rolly eyes]

As long as he stays away from golf columns. He doesn't know squat about it.

It's okay, though, that O'Connor doesn't know squat about golf. You don't know squat about squat, and yet you pass yourself off as an expert about anything under the sun.

If anyone would know about writing despite knowing squat about the subject, it's surely Hondo.

if this is true, it's a great get for "the record." but wasn't ian making incredible coin at gannett?

    is his contract up?

Wonder if he is bringing his no-cut with him.

    And no edit also.
Excellent pickup for The Record and also the final nail in the coffin as far as The Journal News' retreat from doing anything having to do with NYC. Just wonder how much longer before they think about giving up the pro beats or co-oping them with the Jersey papers.

Gannett NJ also has bailed out of the pros, as they 86ed their Nets and Devils coverage before this season. They aren't even covering home games.

They must've paid a fortune to get him. He had a great deal going with Gannett...

Great hire... I like AWoj better, but that's hardly a knock at Ian...

For anyone on this board to chastize someone else for self-confidence in their knowledge of sports and their craft is ridiculous. We're all ego-maniacs. Most of you, such as the two gentlemen quoted above, refuse to admit it.

This, of course, comes from the guy who says Vince Young is the biggest draft day bust in 25 years.

Try to watch a mirror sometime, pal.
