I thought Newman was amazing in Empire Falls. Cool Hand Luke will also be a fixture in my DVD collection due to the fact that my dad made me watch it when i was 13, and I realized that the old man wasn't as dumb as I'd given him credit for. Also realized that I wasn't near as smart as I thought I was, either.

I thought the casting in Empire Falls was dead on. Ed Harris, Adrien what's his name and Paul Newman look related. And Josh Lucas as the young Paul Newman ... damn near uncanny the resemblance.

 

Even in "Message In A Bottle," Newman is almost good enough in the 15% of the time he's on the screen to redeem the 85% of sappy treacle when he isn't.
