Outside of midtown-NYC theatres showing blockbuster fare (always a brutal environment), the seniors are completely out to lunch in most suburbs, especially during matinees. They act like they're talking in front of their home TVs. I'm no kid, but I've verbally laid more than a few of them out. They don't quite know how to react.

Not looking to cause Mustang grief . . . but unless you're in the last row, in the corner, I must concur with the dissenters.

A truly underrated experience — unless you're going to a movie that demands audience participation (i.e. Plan 9 From Outer Space, etc.).

Love it. Late one night, half-dozen of us comprised the entire crowd for the first half-hour of the latest Stones concert film. Priceless.

(Finishing the thread title) if the local porno house didn't burn down.

90 percent of the movies I go to are at the drive-in. There's one left in Los Angeles County - the Vineland Drive-in in Industry. It's a bit of a slog from Hollywood, but it's cheap ($8.50 for adults and kids are free) and a way that we can be sure that our four-year-old daughter doesn't disturb people by talking through "Kung Fu Panda 2" or "X-Men: Origins." Plus, since you can bring your own food/drinks/snacks, that a HUGE savings there as well.

Hard to get out of a theater without dropping at least $20. Not easy to do on part-time work.

Last two movies I saw (Adjustment Bureau and Source Code) my friend paid. She makes more than me.

I almost always back off my "Ok, I'm not buying any food or drinks at the movies" promise. We saw the Hangover on Memorial Day at noon. $6 per ticket times two is $12. Wow. Two people at the movies for $12. That's awesome. Well....add the $5.75 drink and the $6 popcorn and it brings the total to $24. We finished the drink, but we still had half the popcorn left over. Still, not a totally bad deal, but dammit, one day I'll stick to my word....

Oh, and don't forget ducking into another movie following the one you actually paid for. That helps. :)

I was the only person in the theater for a weekday matinee showing of Quantum of Solace. Man, that was the best.

We have started going to the movie theater in town. We don't spend much more than we would at a regular theater. And we get a full dinner, plus a beer or two during the show. There are very few teenagers there, I suppose because it costs more to go. So, instead of spending $6 on a soda, I am spending $7 and getting two beers. Plus a decent dinner for about $7-8 each. And the one time we went and saw a kids movie, all the kids in the theater were nice and quiet, probably because they all had food in front of them to eat and keep them occupied. Plus, in order to make room for the tables, they had to remove every other row of seats. Which means there is tons of room to move around and not bother anyone else. Works out to a win-win situation.

Smuggled Jack Daniels with theater fountain coke . . . bingo, that's a goodie.

There has to be a way to jam phone signals.
