Several years back I got a hankerin' to hit the trail and bought a copy at EB. Think it cost about 10 bucks.
Sadly, when my then-girlfriend decided she didn't like me anymore, she left and took the game with her. I hope she dies of dysentery.

So you want to play Oregon Trail? It's easier than you might think...

First, go to http://applewin.berlios.de/ and download version 1.13.1 of the Apple IIe emulator for Windows (designed for Win 95/98 but works on my XP).

Unzip the files, launch the program.

Then go to http://www.classicgaming.com/rotw/otrail.shtml and download the Oregon Trail Apple II disk image. Unzip that as well.

Drag the "Otrail1" disk image from the files you just unzipped onto the "Master 1" button on the Apple IIe emulator program, click the apple logo and you're playing. Easy as that.

First try last night thieves stole all of my oxen and I died a slow death from dysentry. Second try I won the game for the first time ever (I wasn't very good at computer games in Grade 2)!

It was around before that, though, when you would use your trusty Apple II paddles to line up a shot and kill game.

    Carmen Sandiego was better.

Carmen was a crafty bitch, always sending her minions to do her dirty work until the very end.

    PS — Rockapella rules.

Carmen Sandiego was pretty good. Speaking of old games.. Doc and I have the entire collection of Nintendo NES games on Doc's laptop. They are a ton of fun!
