How to tip movers?

If you go the beer route, wait till after they are done moving your stuff till they get tipsy.

I'd be prepared with $100 or so extra, but only if they do a good job or some unforseen extra.

So instead of a tip per se, maybe it's an extra $100 to hang a mirror or put a bed together or whatever might be a pain for you.

 

BYH, you have no idea how many times I rewrote that first sentence.

"I have two men coming...no that won't work."
"I have two men arriving at 10 a.m. Thursday to move me...no, that won't work either!"
"I have two men arriving at 10 a.m. Thursday with a 17-foot...dammit, this one's going to have to work!"

 

Then if I were you I'd just give them $400 and let the guys split what's left over. Or just buy em a case of beer.

 

I wondered about this a few months ago when we moved across the country.

I had planned to give the movers $50 on the pickup and $50 at the delivery. Thanks to the yahoos who run our apartment complex, our driveway was snowed in days after a storm. The movers came anyway, had their truck get stuck in the driveway... It was a mess. So I tipped them $100 for the pickup and $50 at the delivery.
