He never said the Colorado Springs paper did a story that he was on the Olympic team. Just said it did a story on him.

I see nothing wrong with this story. But you also jumped to conclusions in your post that this thread didn't support.

He has completely misrepresented what the Gazette story was. He deserves to be called out.

To me, it meant stories about the guy in which he misrepresented himself in terms of how good he was. I differ with the contention that happened in CS...but your argument was that CS said he was on the Olympic team...which obviously didn't happen.

So instead of doing a simple google search, you railed for no reason with no background other than inference.

1) Talk about your hearing.
My hearing loss was diagnosed at the age of seven. The cause [of my hearing loss] is unknown but some say it’s due to being premature at 2 pounds, 8 ounces; again unknown! I never had any speech at the time until I was sent to speech pathologist school while living overseas. I never regained my speech until the age of five, but with some stuttering and slurs here and there. Not being able to speak until the age of five was really scary because of the fact I would have to depend on other people when I really wanted to speak for myself. Most of the time I would write and write, like if I am turning in an essay to one of my teachers. That would be another way of communication when three-fourths of my friends and family didn't know sign language at the time. But they were patient enough to even cooperate with me and all. I started lip reading at the age of three. Miraculously, I happened to read lips miles away and that gave me the opportunity to even be successful in and out of the classrooms. Basically I learned how to speak by being patient until God gave me a new voice! I have done a lot of speech therapy while living overseas, doing two hours a day between classes and going to audiologists to get some sound adjustment. That way I could hear or feel the sound of my voice. I had to work my muscles between the esophagus and voice box in order to get some sound out.

2) What are some differences in your life now that you can speak?
The main differences are I could actually hear sayings that I use and with that hear just about every bird on this Earth that the Lord has given us. I could speak freely and not have a problem with it, even though I still hold myself to American Sign Language as my first language. Speaking really changed my life, such as maturity and being able to communicate with others that wouldn't know any ASL or were misunderstanding [me]. At least it saves me and the peer’s time rather than writing every sentence on a piece of paper when you really have to save a tree, haha! I am able to give out more details than expected because I am learning new words every day and it’s a blessing! I've always wanted to speak because I see it as being equal even though God gave me no speech at first but again I had to ask, seek and knock in order to get the feeling.

3) Discuss your greatest challenge or struggle.
My greatest struggle would be making it out of the ICU after being hospitalized for three months to recover from a severe illness, while other infant mates of mine never had the chance to see the light or even breathe oxygen outside the hospital. I was born three months early, weighing 2 pounds, eight ounces, with a severe illness called: Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), which is a heart problem that occurs soon after birth in some babies. In PDA, there is an abnormal circulation of blood between two of the major arteries near the heart. Before birth, the two major arteries—the aorta and the pulmonary artery—are normally connected by a blood vessel called the ductus arteriosus, which is an essential part of the fetal circulation. After birth, the vessel is supposed to close within a few days as part of the normal changes occurring in the baby's circulation. In some babies, however, the ductus arteriosus remains open. This opening allows blood to flow directly from the aorta into the pulmonary artery, which can put a strain on the heart and increase the blood pressure in the lung arteries.

4) Talk more about being deaf and wrestling. When you’re on the mat, what exactly can you hear?
Without my hearing aids, I hear absolutely nothing except for the roaring of the crowds or stomping on the mat. I can't even hear the whistle so at least it keeps my mind focused on the competition. There is really no advantage towards me because I can hear my coach as well by just reading his or her lips. Or I would just read my opponent’s body reaction to figure out a way to win the match. It all comes to listening to your own heart!

5) What is your proudest moment?
My three proudest moments are: 1) Blessed to have my mother and brother, who have been supportive throughout my life; 2) Being the first deaf wrestler to be an All-American at the 2005 U.S. National Championship Open in Freestyle; 3) Making my first 2005 Deaf Olympic appearance, bringing home sixth place in Greco.

6) Talk about your experience at the Deaf Olympics in 2005.
Making the team was a dream come true whether I am deaf, paralyzed or normal. It's still a whole OLYMPIC because you're representing your own country! I tell people I am an Olympian rather than saying Deaf but then again I'll add the word deaf to it. Going to Australia was one of the best times ever as I'd go back there just to do it again. With 645 USA team members during the ceremony it really caught my eyes because I remember watching the ‘96, ‘00, and ‘04 games on TV, telling myself I will be there and once I am there I will bring home the gold and tell stories to my children in the future. I brought home a bronze medal sixth place, as third to sixth is bronze in the Deaf Olympics. I am happy with that but for 2008 Olympics, 2009 Deaf Olympics, 2012 Olympics, and 2013 Deaf Olympics...those are my years to be the first Deaf Wrestler to win a medal in all of them. A gold would be hard work!

7) What are you working on to achieve that gold?
1) Bible Study – I am staying as close to the Lord as possible.
2) Getting the best training there is from the best coaches here at the best facility in the world!
3) Being confident in myself!

8) Give three tips for a young wrestler with a disadvantage.
1) Believe in yourself and be strong.
2) Remember, "It's not where you start, it’s where you finish."
3) Love what you do and be happy – God made you the way he wants you to be!

9) Do you have any superstitions or things you do before a match consistently?
I would find a nice quiet place to myself and do some shadow wrestling while listening to some of my favorite iPod tunes while good heat is flowing through my veins and sweat is draining down my body! I can listen to the music, but it depends on what kind of music I listen, to where I can just listen to the bass or sometimes some wordings. Most of the time, just the bass or beat unless I get a list of lyrics.

10) What’s the best advice you’ve received?
