How many will Bonds hit?

Assuming he ever does break the record -- and we can still hope that he doesn't -- how many does Bonds finish with? Judging by the swings he's been taking for the past month or so, I'd actually be surprised if he gets much past 770.

Has anyone noticed that if you pitch him inside he has no chance of turning on it and hitting it at all?

Maddux noticed. He ran his screwball-looking fastball off the inside corner to Bonds all game tonight.

Bonds is hitting under .200 for the last month. So, others have noticed, too.

Bernie Wilson also did a big story this week about how Maddux would hate to give up an historic bomb to Bonds, so he would just walk him.

Then he challenged him all night.

Just when I got excited and said, "Hey, if every pitcher thought like Maddux..."

How could anyone with a brain have thought Maddux was going to intentionally walk Bonds?

I have no doubt that Mad Dog would have hated to give up a historic home run, but he wasn't going to walk anyone to keep from doing it.

Maddux was clearly playing mind games, which is great.

And Bonds had no prayer at hitting that scroogie. Maddux even left a couple fat, and Bonds flailed.

I think he could get up to 775, but not much more than that.

Is he going to play next season?
