How Does USA Today Survive?

    I don't know if it was a scam, but it was definitely creative. In the last year, every hotel I've stayed at had a USA Today either delivered to my door or had them at the front desk for free for people staying there.

    In addition to the hotels, I'd be curious what percentage of USA Today's business is from airports.

    I live in a city with a Gannett paper. The Sunday paper is 75 percent USA Today. I'm not sure how that counts toward circulation numbers as well.

    I'm not sure about airports, but there was a time when more than half of USAT's circulation was through hotels.

    The "scam" was that hotels charged guests for the paper whether they wanted it or not, and IF the guests noticed, they could ask for a refund.
