Which was every time, right? That actually surprises me. Most comedians I've seen are pretty good at taking jokes, especially at those roasts. You've got to expect it there.

You guys can trash Carrot Top as much as you want, but that guy was funny as fuck when I went to see him.

Sure, a lot of his stuff left me with the "God, this dude is a douche" feeling, but all in all, it was WELL worth the money and I'd go see him again.

And considering I then went the next night to see a topless show called "Fantasy", I'd say it was a solid trip entertainment wise at the Luxor.

  3. One of the worst casinos anywhere, but Bobby Slayton is worth the $37.50 or whatever it is. Saw him in December at the lovely Hooters establishment and he killed. He hung around after the show and chatted up anyone who was around ...

The Flamingo has one of the best pool complexes on the Strip, and it's on the monorail line. Can take that all the way south to MGM and see the Lion habitat or all the way north to Sahara and a roller coaster. Bellagio fountains are catty-corner to the Flamingo.

I'd toss out Stratosphere Tower for the kids too.

    Hadn't considered those. Thanks.

(I started a new thread, which is why my above post disappeared.)

I love the Flamingo too. Plus you can easily walk to the sports book, pick up a racing form, walk to the pool and figure out who to play and then make the short walk to the book.
Have stayed the past couple times at the Hilton. Pool area isn't as nice but it is on a monorail stop.

Spent the weekend in LV. Didn't go to Hooters, but the billboards now claim $5 blackjack 24/7. That's new, I think.
Stayed at The Venetian. Very luxurious, very big. Lots to see. It is connected to the new Palazzo. You can walk from one to the other without going outside. My feet hurt.
Didn't care for the Venetian casino too much. On one table I was playing Let It Ride, they bumped the minimum bet from $10 to $15 (that's a starting bet of $45). We played about 3 more hands and the dealer said we had to bet the higher rate if we wanted to continue. Every time that has happened to me before, the pit boss said all those at the table could play lower minimum as long as they stayed.
Most of the blackjack was $25 or $50, but there were a couple of $15 tables.
Saw the Blue Man Group and thought it was awesome. Lots of percussion stuff and for an old drummer, that was good for me.
When we went in February, I was surprised to see that the Nevada Landing in Jean was closed and fenced off. Now, all that remains is the sign and a barren lot. The place is gone. But the Gold Strike on the other side of 15 is still there and open. Wonder how long. I never stop at those places anyway, nor Whiskey Pete's or Terribles in Primm.

I've only been to Vegas once, and it was for a friend's wedding while I was in college. Needless to say, money wasn't flowing then, so I stayed in the cheapest room Circus Circus had to offer. It was a terrible room on the far North reaches of the Strip. But you know what, all I did there was sleep and shower. Sure the walk was long, but get a cab or a shuttle if you can't hack it.

It's Vegas. Who cares how nice the hotel is? How much time do you actually plan to spend awake in your hotel room? Just give me some clean towels and hot water.

See, I agree with this on principle, but for me, I spend at least an hour in the afternoon recovering from my morning/afternoon adventures and getting ready for my night out, so I like to stay at a somewhat decent place.

Mind you, when I stood in NYC last I stood at a hostel up near Harlem for $30 per night (Rate was $60, I split it with my GF). No word of a lie it looked like a murder took place in my room. But, I didn't mind for the most part. It sucked during my above-mentioned hour of recovery, but all in all, I loved the fact that I had so much more money to spend on food, shows, e.t.c.

So, the morale of the story is, you can go cheap, you can spend a little extra, the only thing that matters is if you have a good trip. Having a good stay in a hotel is just a little something in addition.

holy crap, the Walgreens. I remember stopping there for water in the summer of 2004. It had to be 110 degrees out. But hey, it was a dry heat.

As for your new post...sorry, but I cannot stay in a shithouse, regardless of how little time I plan to spend in the room. I want to be able to sleep a restful sleep and not worry about how many different diseases I'm gonna catch in the bed or in the shower and not worry about someone opening the door and hacking me into pieces and not worry that a snuff film is being taped in my room (can you tell I just saw Vacancy?). and don't get me going on staying in rooms that are accessible from outside. I HATE that.

That's utter bullshit. I've never heard of a place where they bumped the minimum for the people already at the table. Hell, they probably make more money from that--you figure you're getting a deal so you stay longer at the table.

The Landing's been closed for a while, I think. I can't figure a reason to stop in Jean. Either you want to get to the tables ASAP, so you stay in Primm, or you want Vegas, so you go there. I think both Primm and Jean get a lot of the bus traffic up from the San Gabriel Valley though.
