Nolan Ryan deserved to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but he received the most votes among pitchers when the team of the century was announced 10 years ago.

Great pitcher? Definitely. Best ever? Not even fucking close.

Must've had the Brass Rail on his mind.

    Col Beauregard,

Have you paid your tab there?

What would have happened in Boston?

It makes almost any other nudey bar look like a bridge club.

Have heard Alex Rios is a huge fan.

Tom Petty is overused. Too bad he's real, living and breathing.

I'm pleasantly surprised at all the support Dawson's had on this thread. I think he should be in, but I love the Cubs, so it's nice to see more level-headed people agree.

Now I just need you peckerheads to see the light regarding Santo...

Watching the 2001 episode of "Seasons" on MLB Network right now, and I'll just say this about Jeter:

After those two plays he made in the ALDS -- the shuffle relay to get Little Giambi in Game 3 and the backhand catch tumbling into the stands in Game 5 -- within the context of that playoff series (rallying from down 0-2) and that time in our history (9/11) ... I think even the most ardent Yankees-haters can admit that he deserved all the acclaim he got for that.

  8. I think this thread proves that the man is keeping Mini Ditka down.

I'd add Cal Ripken to the Jeter/Ryan list of no-doubt-about-it first-ballot HOFers who are also very overrated (by being overhyped in comparison to equally deserving contemporaries).
