    A packing suggestion I've heard is trinkets for the kids soldiers come across.

    Any letters I sent were free to the APO, then $.32 (or whatever it was then) from the APO to my house.

    Same for my wife when she sent me stuff.

    Maybe it's location-based. I wasn't in the Middle East, but a support base in the Indian Ocean.
