Hey, Rosie, here's an article about hockey in Minnesota

    A) It's a prep school.
    B) It's Brent Musburger's alma mater, which disqualifies it for most championships.

Ask your sister-in-law about the state championship thing. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure...

Pohl's girlfriend is a tremendous hockey player.

    Rosie --

I'm reasonably sure a Rochester team won a title in the 1970's.

And Red Wing has gone since the tourney split, but I don't think they've won.

    Well, I'm 1-2.

Rochester Marshall did win a single class title in 1977, defeating Edina IIRC.

I shorted Red Wing, however, who won a class A title in 1997.

Those are the only southern champions I could find.

    East or West. No cheating.

    Shit.

Is it a trick question? When did Edina split? I think it was the early 70's...

I'm gonna go with East. Yes, Regis, that's my final answer.

    That is correct.

You may have your cake and eat it too.

    (Minnesota joke)

Roseau's defeat of Grand Rapids was a reprise of the 1990 championship, the next-to-last single-class tournament, also won by Roseau. I recall a lot of hand-wringing about the Cities' domination and the small schools not having a chance. Har-har. Go North!

Can anyone name the last single-class champion? Also, no cheating.

    Jefferson?

    Come on, that's too easy!

    Roseau.

That was that 1990 championship game.

Trick question -- When did the tournament become Class A and AA?

If the last single class was 1991, and I'm really not sure because of the Tier I and II experiment, I think it was Hill-Murray.

Dammit, I was wrong -- off by one year.

    It was Hill Murray.
