By the way, what is a "real quick" jump for the purposes of your story? Two years? One year? Three years?

    Great one, Xan.
I'm really looking for 1-2 year wonders who took off.
Any take off and fail miserably?
Any stay behind and then get burned later?

Rick Barnes was at Mason for one year before going to Providence.

Matt Painter one year at Southern Illinois (though he was an asst there for a few years) before jumping to Purdue to become associate head coach for a year, then head coach.

In 1986, Mike Newell turned down Marquette to stay at Arkansas -- Little Rock. In the end, his biggest stop ended up being Lamar -- which also ended up being a destination for Mike Deane after Marquette fired him. Thus, Lamar got a guy that turned town Marquette, then later got a guy that Marquette sent packing.

Mike Rice just signed a contract extension with Robert Morris after winning 50 games in his first two years as a college head coach. He had offers to leave but ended up staying.

Dan Monson, Gonzaga to Minnesota. Now at Long Beach State

Lorenzo Romar, St. Louis to Washington

I don't think Pitino was at BU very long before going to Providence.

As far as mid-majors who stayed, Dick Tarrant would be glad to talk to you, I'd bet.
