Figure Gordon and Cooper will alternate 2nd and 3rd votes. That there are only three finalists going to NYC indicates a pretty big vote.

My favorite part is finding out who does the wacky bit of voting for someone completely off the radar. Maybe it's an offensive lineman. Maybe it's a linebacker. That's always fun.

    Scooby Do!

Also known as Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright, who won the Bronco Nagurski Award but honest to God until the Oregon-Arizona title game, I had never heard his name mentioned but he'll be someone who gets votes.

You don't need to ask voters who they voted for to know who's going to get the award this year. Mariota will win by a fairly close margin over Gordon and Cooper...well, congrats, Amari, you got yourself a free trip to New York City. Cooper will be a distant third.

That's not the point, but thanks for informing me who's going to win. I had no idea.

That sucks. As a former voter, I always enjoyed when writers from other cities would call and ask me how I was voting. I got to know several writers that way who I probably never would have met.

Not that it was a surprise, but kudos to Marcus Mariota. Definitely a deserving winner, but for his on-the-field prowess and for his character and humbleness off the field. It's refreshing to see a young man of high character win the award after the last couple of years, since Mariota is the type of player college football needs more of: an incredible athlete to watch who is also a good role model for younger players.
