Honest, I swear. The guy it happened to is now a cop. Not sure if one has to do with the other :)

    I kid, I kid.

I'm a little weirded out that 'realjock.com' is the banner ad that comes along with this thread.

No, it was well before that. We had trailblazing hazers at my HS. Also, a bunch of sick assholes.

I'm not trying to make light of hazing. But there are just kids who are goofing around and do harmless things, then there are some real awful things going on. Now, what is what is up for debate. I guess it's like porn, I know it when I see it.

But I understand others may think something harmless is hazing, and vice versa. I guess just dig and see what you can find. But don;t write a story just to be writing a story.

If sports writers refused to write a story just to write a story ... well, it'd be a hell of a lot easier to get on at the Plain-Dealer is all I'm sayin.'

Schools are taking this crap more and more seriously all the time.

There was a serious hazing incident on the football team (Mr. Broom was brought out) a couple of years ago at McGill University. Two players were suspended and they shut the football program down for the rest of the season.

I went to a hazing/initiation ritual when I worked for the college paper. It was a bunch of upperclassmen making the guys wear stupid stuff, coloring on faces, putting Icy Hot on balls, then making them run aroudn the backyard while eggs were tossed at them. They provided beer, asked everyone to drink, but a couple of kids didn't want to and they weren't about to force them. I saw similar things at girls initiations.

Sometimes things go to far. But as long as no one is getting violated, what's the big deal? Hazing is now defined as when seniors make freshmen carry equiptment.

if it turns out to be the harmless kind of hazing (see above: ben-gay in jockstrap), maybe you can write a story about how people start to throw shit fits at the slightest bit of hazing these days, and how there has to be a line between harmless hazing (which probably should go by another term) and shoving pinecones up kids' asses.http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/features/n_9391/

What a bunch of clueless assholes. The kids who witnessed it and didn't do anything should go to jail as well.

This isn't the 1950s. Hazing's wrong nowadays. And borderline abusive.
