Hats Off to The Democrats

In the Fall elections of 2006 two of the big issues were the Iraq war and Privacy / Wire tap act. The Democrats told us they would bring the troops home and pass a wire tap act that would allow liberal monitoring of possible terrorists.

With the wire tap act passing on Wednesday of this past week they have delivered on their promise.

My hat is off to you Nancy Pelosi

The obstructionist Republicans have filibustered in excess of 80 pieces of major legislation. That's why America is about to hand the DEMS the White House and bigger majorities in Congress.

Congress has a 9 percent approval rating. If the Democrats extend their margins in either chamber, it'll be because the Republicans are more interested in shooting off more of their own toes than actually campaigning again.

Other than this and other small moves, it seems the Democratic congress has been biding its time until one of their own occupies the White House. They haven't been nearly as aggressive as the rhetoric of their (long ago) 2006 campaign would have indicated.

You do understand that Boom's post was sarcastic and that the Dems caved to Bush on the wiretap act, don't you?

    Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill:

"Once we have more information we'll know to what degree our laws were circumvented," Obama said. "But regardless, I am certain that we can do the intelligence gathering we need to do without eroding the civil liberties our founding fathers intended."

    Yup.

But at least it shows they're actually voting on something interesting.

    Again, just biding their time.

    Or something.

Take one step forward if you've voted since April... Not so fast Sen. McCain.

Heaven forbid if we go back to Liberal politics that resulted in 23 million jobs, 1 million people moving out of poverty, 80,000 cops on the streets, affordable college tuition, record home ownership, record number of millionaires created and salaries staying ahead of inflation.

Yeah, high tax rates for investors and the ultra-rich really swamped the economy in the 1990s.

Nobody on this board will have their taxes raised if Obama wins (if for no other reason than the GOP will filibuster any tax increase, right?). And, Obama is the only candidate I've ever heard threaten to lower the FICA taxes.

Yeah, please GOP save us from the damn dirty Liberals.

W - recession in and recession out. Thank God I'm a Country Boy with an MBA from Harvard.

You forgot the quadrupling of incarceration rates for minorities - resulting in many violent criminals being taken off the streets.

Thanks almost entirely to the "Taking Back Our Streets" component of the 1994 Contract with America.

A document inspired by Reagan's second inaugural; buffed to a high shine by the Heritage Foundation; then composed and passed by congressional Republicans, was it not?

Don't forget the assault weapon ban that helped reduce violent crime EVERY year of the Clinton administration. Can W say the same? of course, you can just throw out some racist thoughts in honor of the dearly-departed-we're-spitting-on-your-grave Jesse Helms.

How many jobs have been created since W became president if you eliminate government jobs?

Nice source: Wikipedia - what did Wemakeshitup.com crash?
