Hard rock remakes of poppy crap

I don't mind the Social Distortion version of "Ring Of Fire". Better than their version of "Pretty In Pink".

The originals aren't exactly "crap", but how about the Foo Fighters' cool cover of "Baker Street" and "Darling Nikki"?

The Ataris' version of "Boys Of Summer" added absolutely nothing to the awesome original.

Foo's version of Baker Street is awesome. I agree with Boys of Summer, not a good one.

What about Goldfinger's 99 Red Balloons, Is She Really Going Out With Him?

    You beat me to it.

They do a pretty good "Uptown Girl," "Blowin' in the Wind," "Favorite Things," etc. Also:

    NOFX, "Go Your Own Way."
    Pennywise, "Stand By Me."

None of those, of course, are poppy crap. But good hard covers, nonetheless.

Nickleback with Kid Rock: "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)"
    Disturbed: "Land of Confusion."

Not that either of the above were "poppy crap," but I like those covers better.

Stevie Nicks: "I Need To Know." Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers did a great song. Nicks adds a lot of fire and emotion to it. Petty himself compliments her rendition of the song.

    No Nickelback. Not ever.

Kashmir is not poppy crap, but the late Kevin Gilbert did a great cover of Kashmir that was a candidate for a Zep tribute album but didn't make the cut.

Nonpoint did a pretty good cover of Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight" a few years back. I thought it was pretty solid.

I know it sounds like blasphemy but I rather like Puff Daddy's remix of Come With Me ... Jimmy Page playing and all!

    Amen, brother. Amen.

Almost forgot that one. Great song.

Kinda turns the topic on its ear, doesn't it?

That said, I love his version. I'll admit I haven't heard the original...
