I'm going to give a massage, with no expectation of getting anything returned.

Re: the tulips vs. roses debate:

Roses are nice, but if you know she has a favorite flower, get those. I happen to love tulips and calla lilies. Not everyone does. Roses smell good, tulips not so much...so if she doesn't love tulips, it might not be the way to go.

And I think gerbera daisies are a nice alternative, for whoever said that too.

Daisies are always a good idea.

Gerber daisies ARE nice. And they look vibrant, lots of nice vibrant colors.

    Re: Valentine's Day Preview Thread

I think deep-down all women love to receive flowers, especially at work in front of co-workers. It shows others that someone cares enough to make an effort (not just valentine's, but b-days, anniversaries, etc.)

When my gf and I first got together three or so years ago, she told me she hated getting flowers - thought it was a waste of money. BUT, the few occasions I've bought her flowers, she is ALWAYS VERY pleased. I think some women just say they don't like flowers because they think that's what guys want to hear.

This year, I went all out. Flowers, chocolate, two cards (one joke, one serious), diamond necklace and dinner. Plus, she thinks I have to work on Wednesday, so me taking her out will be another surprise. Sidenote: I went ahead and got roses this year, because I usually buy her tiger lillies (her favorite).

We don't make a big deal out of it because our anniversary is a couple weeks later. Just cards, no gifts. I will cook Cornish hens.
