    And yesterday was Kapyong Day. It's the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong in the Korean War.

    Sadly, Kapyong Day is not commemorated in Canada as it is in Australia, even though the Canadians, unlike the Australians, did not make a "gallant retreat." They stayed, they were surrounded by a force at least 10 times their size.....and they won.

    Why does this matter to me? Because my father was there.

    Once a desperate Canadian platoon commander, Lieutenant Mike Levy, even called down a storm of friendly fire on his own position as Chinese troops overran it.

    He was in that platoon.

    Thanks, Dad. To say I'm glad you made it out alive is certainly an understatement. :)
