Happy 80th to the Red Headed Stranger

Don't boss him, don't cross him: Willie Nelson turns 80 today.

Can't imagine how he's celebrating.


I haven't cranked up "Red Headed Stranger" in oh, about two weeks now. Will have to toss it on again.

Happy birthday, Willie.

 

Arrested for possession in four different decades (1970s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s). A legend in many ways.

 

Was banging around youtube looking for old Billy Gibbons stuff and found his birthday wishes to Willie vid. Seems lots of folks from Paul Anka to Keef did the same.

I played part of Willie's Stardust album before my classes today. It was the first time I had listed to it in quite a while. It is just an awesome album.

 

Tremendous stat. Red-Headed Stranger of of the best albums in any genre, ever.

 

I remember listening to his old LPs when my parents had them in the 70s as part of their record collection. Great stuff.

In one of the newsrooms I worked in, I heard that Willie got busted (2006, I think).

Someone asked me about it and I said "That's Willie F---ing Nelson. He's earned the right to do whatever he wants. If he wants to smoke a blunt the size of a bazooka on his tour bus, I'm cool with that."

No one disapproved.

 

Love Willie, years ago our neighbour was a massive fan, always remember as a kid hearing him play his stuff while he was working on his car.

Willie's albums with Wynton Marsalis are great too.

 

He's got a radio ad out for Earl Campbell Sausage that goes something like this ... "This is Willie Nelson, and I know a thing or two about smoking ..."

 

Loved his cameo in "Half-Baked."
