My favourite Gretzky moment is still the '87 Canada Cup.

Favourite stat: you could take away all his career goals and he'd still be #1 in NHL scoring.

How's Janet Jones looking these days?

 

Like his 92 goals in a season.

Or his 215 points in a season, which no one has been with 85 points in the last 15 years. That's my favorite. Today, almost seems as nonsensically out of reach as Cy Young's 511 wins.

i'm reminded of something my uncle told me when i bragged that my first gf was pretty (she was 14, i was 16).

'is her mom good looking?' he asked.

'oh, yeah,' i said -- if the term 'milf' was in vogue then my gf's mom was the first milf in my life...

'well, then,' unc said, 'you know your gf will still be, too, in 20 years.'

now, there are certainly many exceptions we're all aware of. but many of the teenage girls my sons consider 'hot' in our community have mothers i consider 'hot.'

they're not always dead-ringers, though. janet/wayne's daughter and teenaged janet are eerily identical, if this pic is accurate evidence...
'you want to know how she'll look in 20 years? if her mom is a looker your gf will be, too.'

Only on sj could a birthday tribute get threadjacked by dirty old men.

 

What else is anybody going to talk about? He's the greatest of all-time, but his greatest accomplishments are his wife and daughter.

 

If our present Prime Minister (a huge hockey fan) wanted to leave a real legacy, he could declare January 26 "Wayne Gretzky Day" and give everybody a holiday.
