I don't know what your lead is, but for the love of God, don't do this.

"Dead. That's what Jane Doe is following her death on Tuesday.

Doe could not be reached for clarification.

If she was quoteworthy, would her death have been treated as a news obit? Or should it?

    Sorry, but I cannot resist.

Hopefully the last quote was not, "Arrrrrrgggghhhhh."

I think this gives you license to write whatever you want the quote to say and attribute it to the woman. It's not like she'll be able to object or say she was misquoted.

"I'll be a loyal supporter of this event until the day I die," said Doe, who died Tuesday.

In all seriousness, four people whom I interviewed for my Slap Shot book died before it was published.

Two of them, including Paul Newman, were featured performers in the movie. One was the film's editor, kind of an important job. And one was the former president of Universal Pictures who gave the final approval to make and release the movie. You're damned right I didn't remove one quote from any of those four people.

TOTALLY different ballpark, JJ. Books take years to complete. Things are bound to happen.

If this is just an event preview, it's not even comparable.
