The Mars Planets, in Butler County, Pa.
Also, Centenary College in Louisiana was the Gentlemen ... and the Lady Gents.
Still haven't seen a mention of the Fort Collins Lambkins - baby rams.

    Home of Roy Oswalt.

    Home of Jason Campbell.

    My favorite: Cairo (Ga.) Syrupmakers

My least favorite: Vicksburg (Miss.) Missy Gators (girls teams only)

But my favorite mascot-related story concerns McIntosh High School in Alabama. They were for years known as the Demons until a local pastor led a movement to change the name.

They did so, and put the new mascot name up to a vote of the students. The 100 percent black student body voted for "Playas" in a landslide.

So the school board ruled that the school's teams would have no nickname, and for several years they were simply known as McIntosh. A couple of years ago, a new superintendent reinstated the Demons nicknames.

And I'm wrong for the billionth time. My apologies. I really thought that was their nickname. I guess I just assumed the intramural softball team I played against in college used the HS nickname. A bad assumption.

Oh, and on Tupelo, their HS is the Golden Wave. Did I get that one right? That's kinda goofy, huh? :)

Oh, and another one from Michigan...

    the Vassar Vulcans

named for the God of Thunder and Fire (or whatever he was)...not Dr. Spock.

But I would like to see Vassar play Goodrich

It would be the Vulcans vs. the Martians!

The East Coast Hockey League used to have a Louisiana team called the Ice Gators ... if you say it quickly, it's clever (in my opinion).
