    Agreed.

Haven't professionals jumped into the stands to catch foul balls before? (I'm thinking of the Jeter play, but his feet were in play).

Anyone arguing that should have been a home run knows nothing about baseball and should just stop now.

Bullshit. You forgot about Willis Reed walking through a tunnel and scoring two times in a basketball game. It completes the holy trio--Mays' Catch, Namath's guarantee and Reed's ....umm..... tunnel walk? Sadly, nothing truly great has happened in sports in the 42 years since.

The catches mentioned were all great catches -- Edmonds, Mays, McCray, etc.

What makes this catch more amazing is that it came with two outs in the ninth inning and took away the possible game-tying home run. Plus it is an incredible athletic feat. The guy didn't creep up to the fence, leap up, and fall over. He was on a full-out sprint and never looked before jumping full out and snagging that ball.

    Absolutely incredible.

The NWAACC operates under NCAA rules:

72 Rule 6 / Ball in Play, OuT OF Play
A.R. 2—If a player intentionally slides, he has not lost body control.
    (1) For a legal catch, a fielder must catch and have secure possession of
the ball before touching dead-ball territory with either foot or falling
    into a dead-ball area.

If Mays was a real man, he'd tell me himself rather than send a lackey to do it over the internet.

While you're all arguing semantics, I'd just like to say the catch resulted in some great journalism, at both the local and the national level.

Careful, the Houston Astros brass might be reading and trying to think of new ways to spice up that atrocity of an outfield.
