Yep, promise them "protection of the sanctity of marriage" and "family values" and meanwhile give tax breaks worth millions to the wealthy and a $400 stimulus check to buy another Wii while schools have to solicit writing pads for their teachers.

The greatness that is America!! Right on!

Your "marginal distraction" may be someone else's "major issue", dude. Who made you determiner of what's major? You get a badge and a certificate? Night school? Correspondence course?

    nibs has a point.

What if it turns out that gay marriage actually leads to more carbon emissions and accelerates global warming? Betcha won't think it's such an non-issue then.

Yeah, gay marriage is a major issue. If you're completely IGNORANT.

What do you think is killing off the polar bears, cranberry? Anyone with a brain knows those fuckers are flamers from the git-go.

And perhaps beyond those marginal issues, blue collar America somehow gets the sense that liberals think they are ignorant (can't possible imagine where that impression comes from) and reflexively shies away.

And these fine folks somehow don't sense that the GOP has been playing them for decades?

    Don't get it.

That's where the "ignorant" part kicks in. Ignorance is unfortunately a subset of all groups along the socio-economic spectrum. It's just especially cynical when the GOP engages in efforts to attract an ignorant sub-group whose economic interests they don't support and, in fact, actively conspire with corporate interests against.

Oh yes, wearing a flag pin is a 'major issue' when soldiers are dying in wars and the economy is tanking.

Where did I mention flag pins or whatever other BS you bring up? Your issues aren't my issues, etc. I know that's a tough concept for ya, but geez.

They don't have a shortage of pads and paper in some of Washington's finest private schools, so there really isn't a problem.

Why not listen to a source that you are much more likely to believe than myself, an Obama volunteer and Daily Kos blogger from West By God. This was written shortly before the primary there.
