I understand economics to know that the best way to sell more widgets is to sell them for a cheaper price than a competitor, and the best way to sell them for a cheaper price is to make them cheaper than a competitor, but the way this kind of globalization BS is going, isn't it just a matter of time that we return to slavery?

"We" as in the USA or "we" as in the industrialized nations?

And given the low wages paid to some workers, you could make a case that a form of economic slavery already exists. Especially when you're talking about migrant workers here illegally.

Well, here's something that's true to form:

Early this year, Deborah Misir, a political deputy in Labor's office of the assistant secretary for policy, worked with the OMB to draft a new risk-assessment rule. A former ethics adviser to Bush, Misir had complained that the department's assumption of a 45-year working life overstated the risk of exposure.

Typically, before drafting a rule, agency officials consult with staff members, lawyers and outside experts, and sometimes industry and other interested parties. But Misir initially did not consult scientific and workplace-risk-assessment experts in OSHA and the Mine Safety and Health Administration, according to sources briefed on her work.

Of course there was no consultation with the experts.

    It's Fredo's way.

Misir, you're doing a heckuva job.

Fredo's version of the EPA doesn't give a shit. The only time they raise a stink about something potentially harming the environment is when it's from something that might actually harm the oil industry, as in new public rail transit and solar panels, as they have here in CT.

Yep, that about sums it up.

So, let's see, the proposal hasn't yet been made public, and the Post is operating off a possibly-maybe-perhaps draft copy... solid.

Hang the bastards! Start with Chao! Ciao, Chao-baby!

What do you expect from an administration that likes to keep secrets, except when it suits their purpose.

    Love that

    " . . . former ethics adviser to Bush . . . "

    line.

    Talk about a do-nothing job.

One big reason is the Second Amendment. In my experience, blue-collar America is decidedly pro-gun, and Democratic politicians, for the most part, are not.

The GOP ALWAYS finds marginal distraction issues (GAY MARRIAGE!) to get ignorant people to vote against their own self interest.
