When you have some pretty widely hacked films -- Bobby, Flags of Our Fathers -- on a list, it really ruins the whole thing.

That being said, if Borat wins, I can't wait for the acceptance speech.

Wait. Big Love is nominated but The Wire is not?

Does The Wire count toward this year?

I don't see how Heroes can get a nom, but not The Wire. Didn't they start right around the same time?

    STATEMENT FROM SACHA BARON COHEN
ON BEHALF OF RECEIVING TWO GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS FOR

BORAT: CULTURAL LEARNINGS OF AMERICA FOR MAKE BENEFIT GLORIOUS NATION
OF KAZAKHSTAN; FILM NOMINATED FOR BEST COMEDY OR MUSICAL; BARON COHEN
    NOMINATED FOR BEST ACTOR

"I am extremely honored. I'm very proud as well for my fellow writers
as well as our director Larry Charles, and our producer Jay Roach, and
am very thankful for the HFPA's belief and acknowledgment of our film.
I have been trying to let Borat know this great news but for the last
4 hours both of Kazakhstan's telephones have been engaged. Eventually,
Premier Nazarbayev answered and said he would pass on the message as
soon as Borat returned from Iran, where he is guest of honor at the
    Holocaust Denial Conference."

I was just going by Big Love being on forever ago.

If the Wire was eligible but not nominated, they might as well cancel this fucker forever. That's how much credibility it will have. It could be their Forrest Gump moment.

"Yeah, I see you workin' it like a Gump."

    Yes, yes and yes.

The Wire is eligible. It, along with Rescue Me, was passed over. The date for consideration, unlike the Academy Awards, is Oct. 1. So, anything that's been on the air since last October is eligible. The problem is, the GG awards rarely recognize off-season shows like Rescue Me. It's a joke.

I mean, look at this shit. Housewives over Earl? Evangeline Lilly (and it pains me to say this) over Katherine Heigl? Felicity Huffman over Jaime Pressly? Hereos and Lost over The Wire and Rescue Me?

They just pick the big names. It's like a glorified popularity contest.

Michael C. Hall should definitely get a nod for "Dexter." Great characterization.

The fact that no actor or actress from The Wire made the nominations either has me hoping it somehow was not eligible, because if it was, and it didn't get a nom in a single category, it's the biggest fucking joke of all time.

A lot of people are going to have to take your word on it. A lot of people. Then again, "Dexter" is more obscure. ;)

    MOTION PICTURES:
Picture, Drama: "Babel," "Bobby," "The Departed," "Little Children," "The Queen"

Haven't seen Babel or Bobby yet, I'd vote for The Departed, even though Queen and Little Children were outstanding...

Actress, Drama: Penelope Cruz, "Volver"; Judi Dench, "Notes on a Scandal"; Maggie Gyllenhaal, "Sherrybaby"; Helen Mirren, "The Queen"; Kate Winslet, "Little Children"

    Helen Mirren is a lock.

Actor, Drama: Leonardo DiCaprio, "Blood Diamond"; Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Departed"; Peter O'Toole, "Venus"; Will Smith, "The Pursuit of Happyness"; Forest Whitaker, "The Last King of Scotland"

DiCaprio will win, I don't know for which film...

Picture, Musical or Comedy: Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," "The Devil Wears Prada," "Dreamgirls," "Little Miss Sunshine," "Thank You for Smoking"

Haven't seen Dreamgirls, but based on the buzz, I'll bet it wins...

Actress, Musical or Comedy: Annette Bening, "Running With Scissors"; Toni Collette, "Little Miss Sunshine"; Beyonce Knowles, "Dreamgirls"; Meryl Streep, "The Devil Wears Prada"; Renee Zellweger, "Miss Potter"

Streep wins by default. Although she was great...

Actor, Musical or Comedy: Sacha Baron Cohen, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan"; Johnny Depp, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"; Aaron Eckhart, "Thank You for Smoking"; Chiwetel Ejiofor, "Kinky Boots"; Will Ferrell, "Stranger than Fiction"

My guess is Cohen wins, although Ferrell was outstanding in Stranger than Fiction...

Supporting Actress: Adriana Barraza, "Babel"; Cate Blanchett,"Notes on a Scandal"; Emily Blunt, "The Devil Wears Prada"; Jennifer Hudson, "Dreamgirls"; Rinko Kikuchi, "Babel"

Blunt was fantastic, but I'll bet Hudson wins...

Supporting Actor: Ben Affleck, "Hollywoodland"; Eddie Murphy,"Dreamgirls"; Jack Nicholson, "The Departed"; Brad Pitt,"Babel"; Mark Wahlberg, "The Departed"

I have a feeling it will be Murphy...

Director: Clint Eastwood, "Flags of Our Fathers"; Clint Eastwood, "Letters from Iwo Jima"; Steven Frears, "The Queen"; Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, "Babel"; Martin Scorsese, "The Departed"

    Scorsese should win...

Screenplay: Guillermo Arriaga, "Babel"; Todd Field and Tom Perrotta, "Little Children"; Patrick Marber, "Notes on a Scandal"; William Monahan, "The Departed"; Peter Morgan, "The Queen"

I'd love to see Perotta, one of my favorite authors, win, but I'm guessing Morgan will win...

Foreign Language: "Apocalypto," USA; "Letters from Iwo Jima," USA/Japan; "The Lives of Others," Germany; "Pan's Labyrinth," Mexico; "Volver" Spain

    Who cares?

    TELEVISION

Series, Drama: "24," Fox; "Big Love," HBO; "Grey's Anatomy," ABC; "Heroes," NBC; "Lost," ABC

    24 easily...

Actress, Drama: Patricia Arquette, "Medium"; Edie Falco, "The Sopranos"; Evangeline Lilly, "Lost"; Ellen Pompeo, "Grey's Anatomy"; Kyra Sedgwick, "The Closer"

    Weak category... Pompeo by default...

Actor, Drama: Patrick Dempsey, "Grey's Anatomy"; Michael C. Hall, "Dexter"; Hugh Laurie, "House"; Bill Paxton, "Big Love"; Kiefer Sutherland, "24"

Michael Hall should win. Dexter is outstanding... I'm guessing Kiefer takes it...

Series, Musical or Comedy: "Desperate Housewives," ABC; "Entourage," HBO; "The Office," NBC; "Ugly Betty," ABC; "Weeds," Showtime

Weeds is by far the best of this bunch, with The Office and Entourage battling for second...

Actress, Musical or Comedy: Marcia Cross, "Desperate Housewives"; America Ferrera, "Ugly Betty"; Felicity Huffman, "Desperate Housewives"; Julia Louis-Dreyfus, "The New Adventures of Old Christine"; Mary-Louise Parker, "Weeds"

    Parker should win again...

Actor, Musical or Comedy: Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock"; Zach Braff, "Scrubs"; Steve Carrell, "The Office"; Jason Lee, "My Name is Earl"; Tony Shalhoub, "Monk"

Can't go wrong with Baldwin or Carell...
