Chopped and channeled, few cars in American history lend themselves to being hot-rodded like the '49/'50/'51 Mercury.

These were pretty great cars. 1973 Capri

as was the Merkur, very briefly, in the late 80s

Suddenly, the pig matters nationally. The pig will matter to the 13 members of the College Football Playoff selection committee, who will burrow into their respective home TV caves Saturday with heightened curiosity about what might happen with the pig. The pig will matter to college football zealots well beyond Iowa and Minnesota, the neighbors who fight annually for the pig. The pig has playoff implications.

    Good for the pig.

Several of my friends had Capris and loved them. But there was a design flaw with the U-joint. They broke and were very difficult to replace. One of the guys was a mechanic at a high-end garage and he couldn't handle replacing the U-joint.

We had one of these in the family when I was a kid. The '63 Mercury Monterey with the electric "breezeway" rear window.

The Montclair was the 4-door version of the same car.

My folks had an Impala that was along those lines.

I remember taking care to get the taillights done right when washing the car.
